چکیده

Stochastic gravitational waves (GW) associated with unresolved astrophysi-cal sources at frequency bands of the ongoing GW interferometers LIGO/VIRGO and LISA are studied. We show that GW noise from rotating galactic neutron stars with low magnetic fields may reach the advanced LIGO sensitivity level at frequency f ∼ 100 Hz. Within LISA frequency band (10 −4 − 10 −1 Hz), the GW background from galactic binary stars is shown to mainly contribute up to a frequency of 3 × 10 −2 Hz, depending on the galactic rate of binary white dwarf mergers. To be detectable by LISA, relic GW backgrounds should be as high as Ω GW h 2 100 > 10 −8 at 10 −2 Hz.

We formulate a gradual dynamical transition from a power-law inflation era with a scalar field to a radiation era with no scalar field including inhomogeneous perturbations to the FriedmannRobertson-Walker universe. We show that for the cosmic microwave background radiation fluctuations this is excellently approximated by a sudden transition, with application of the Lichnerowicz conditions, bot...

In this paper a Neural Networks based approach is presented to identify the noise in the VIRGO context. VIRGO is an experiment to detect Gravitational Waves by means of a Laser Interferometer. Preliminary results appear to be very promising for data analysis of realistic Interfer-ometer outputs.

We present low resolution spectrophotometric and imaging ISO observations of a sample of 54 AGN's over the 2.5–11 µ range. The observations generally support unification schemes and set new constraints on models of the molecular torus.

Recent observations suggest appreciable star formation activity in early-type galaxies down to redshift z ∼ 0.5. If so, there is likely to be dust in these galaxies. We consider the possibility that obscuration by dust can reconcile the observed frequency of gravitational lensing of quasar images with the considerably larger rate predicted in a low density cosmologically flat universe dominated...
